About NachoNut

How a family nacho tradition became NachoNut.

Our Story

While raising my kids, money was always a concern. Instead of going to a restaurant and ordering a meal, we decided to start with a plate of nachos to decide if the food was going to be good or worth ordering. If the nachos were not good or had a bad display, we knew the restaurant just did not care, so we would pay our bill and leave. When the nachos were displayed well but did not taste that good, we knew the quality would be bad, or again, the restaurant just did not care. If the nachos were displayed well and tasted good, we knew we were in for a treat and would stay for the rest of the meal, ordering all kinds of stuff on the menu.

After a while we had to have rules. Each person at the table got a section of the nachos, and it was not fair to pull more sour cream from someone else’s section of the plate. If someone was stacking up jalapeños, they could offer them to everyone at the table, or someone could politely ask for them. Sometimes you might need help because your chip pushed the toppings into someone else’s section, which meant they could use a chip to help push the toppings back onto yours. Sometimes that got reckless.

This was something special my kids and I did, and we always talked about making a webpage for others to join in and rate their nachos in a way that reflects the establishment. With higher education and help from AI, NachoNut is now real. We hope you join in and enjoy the site. We look forward to the photos, ratings, and creative ways you make this platform great. Thank you, and enjoy!

Why Nachos?

To us, nachos are a complicated dish and a fun appetizer, full of colors and tastes, from browns to bright colors. We figured out a lot from the layers. It seemed normal for the meats and beans to be on the bottom, with chips put on top to cover the boring browns and the party of color on top. We found that a restaurant that could master mixing the boring browns with the bright, vibrant colors of the toppings evenly was going to serve a good plate of nachos.

Hall of Fame

Applebee’s turned out to be our favorite place to go for weekend nachos, and to honor them, Applebee’s was the first restaurant officially submitted and reviewed on NachoNut.com. Toby Keith’s Bar & Grill is still open, though only in Oklahoma, and their nachos were a favorite along the way. Chili’s nachos were also a hit and are still highly recommended. Ron Jon Surf Shop has closed their restaurants, but their nachos were great when you could still get them.

Backup Appetizers

After some time we found that not every place had nachos, so we had to expand to other appetizers as well. That is why submissions let you choose other popular appetizers you might see on a menu, such as wings, drumsticks, mozzarella sticks, and more.

FAQ

Why only appetizers?
We use appetizers, especially nachos, to judge a restaurant before ordering more food.
Why chips instead of stars?
Chips fit the site. We are rating nachos, not writing a movie review.
Can I delete my submission?
Yes. You can delete your own submission from the Submissions page.
Can I rate someone else’s post?
No. Reviews belong to the restaurant, not to another member’s submission.
Why are photos required?
The photo shows what was actually served.
Why do I need a location?
Each review applies to one restaurant at one location. The same name in a different city gets its own listing.
Why do I need to verify my email?
New accounts must verify a real email address before signing in or submitting reviews. Placeholder domains like example.com are not allowed.
How do I reset my password?
On the sign-in screen, choose Forgot password? and enter your email. If an account exists, we will send a reset link that expires in 1 hour.
How do I send a suggestion?
Sign in, open the account menu, and choose Contact Us. Pick Suggestion or General and send your message. If NachoNut replies, the conversation will appear under Messages in your account menu.
Why no comments?
Reviews stay limited to a photo and a chip score so the site stays simple.
